Liposuction Recovery

Gentle support for a
confident recovery

If you are preparing for liposuction or body contouring surgery, planning for your recovery is just as important as the procedure itself. The right compression garment can make a significant difference, offering gentle, consistent pressure to support healing, reduce swelling, and help you feel more secure as your body adjusts.

At The Fitting Service, we stock a wide range of post-liposuction compression garments designed in collaboration with cosmetic surgeons to complement your recovery and enhance your results. Soft, discreet, and supportive, these garments are made to work in harmony with your body without compromising on comfort.

Tailored to your procedure

Whether you are recovering from VASER liposuction or a more traditional approach, we have garments to suit every area. From girdles and binders for the abdomen, to bodysuits and leotards for more extensive procedures including thighs, flanks, arms, back, and mons pubis. As your healing progresses, you may need a Stage 2 garment to continue shaping and supporting your body, usually recommended from around six weeks post-op.

Why compression matters

Wearing a compression garment after liposuction does not just aid comfort. It helps reduce swelling, encourages healthy circulation, supports incision sites, and can help minimise the risk of fluid retention. Our garments are designed to help you feel held, not restricted, so you can focus on your recovery feeling supported every step of the way.

What to look for after liposuction

  • Coverage that extends across the full area treated, not just part of it
  • Firm, consistent compression that does not loosen or roll during the day
  • Adjustable fastenings where possible to accommodate swelling in the early weeks
  • Sized from body measurements rather than clothing size
  • A garment suited to your specific procedure area. One size does not fit all liposuction
  • Our experienced fitting team is here to guide you to the right garment for your surgery and stage of healing

Sizing Guides

Liposuction compression garments must be sized from your measurements, not your clothing size. Take your waist, hip, and thigh measurements before ordering and use the brand guide for the specific garment you are considering.

About Compression After Liposuction

What you need to know about compression garments after liposuction

Why compression matters after liposuction

Liposuction removes fat from beneath the skin, leaving a space that the body fills with fluid as part of the natural healing response. Without compression, this fluid can accumulate unevenly, causing prolonged swelling, uneven contours, and in some cases seroma formation. Consistent compression in the weeks following your procedure helps manage this fluid, supports the skin as it contracts to its new shape, and significantly improves the smoothness and evenness of your final result.

Most surgeons recommend wearing a Stage 1 compression garment continuously for the first two to four weeks following liposuction, followed by a lighter Stage 2 garment worn during waking hours for a further four to six weeks. The exact timeline depends on the volume of liposuction performed and how your body is healing.

Choosing the right garment for your area

The most common mistake patients make when buying compression after liposuction is choosing a garment that does not fully cover the treated area. A girdle that ends at the hip is not sufficient for liposuction that extended to the outer thigh. A short that ends at mid-thigh will not compress the inner knee. The garment must extend beyond the treated zone on all sides to provide effective pressure across the full area.

For combined procedures, for example abdominal and thigh liposuction performed in the same session, a bodysuit or combination of garments may be needed. If you are unsure what your surgeon's instructions mean in terms of garment type and coverage, please contact us before ordering and we will help you work it out.

Common Questions

Liposuction compression answered

How long do I need to wear compression after liposuction?

Most surgeons recommend continuous wear for the first two to four weeks, including during sleep in the early days. After this, compression is typically worn during waking hours for a further four to six weeks. Some patients continue with a lighter garment for longer if swelling is still present. Your surgeon's specific instructions take priority and should always guide your wearing schedule.

Can I wear shapewear instead of a medical compression garment?

No. Everyday shapewear does not provide the level or consistency of compression required for post surgical recovery. Medical compression garments are engineered to apply a specific amount of pressure across the treated area and maintain that pressure throughout extended daily wear. Shapewear is designed for aesthetic smoothing and will not provide the clinical support your body needs as it heals after liposuction.

My skin feels lumpy after liposuction. Will compression help?

Uneven texture in the weeks after liposuction is very common and is usually the result of swelling and fluid settling beneath the skin rather than a permanent change to the tissue. Consistent compression helps the skin contract evenly and reduces the lumpiness as healing progresses. Manual lymphatic drainage alongside compression is also frequently recommended by surgeons and can further support a smooth outcome. Most unevenness resolves significantly by three to six months post procedure.

Do I need different garments for different areas of liposuction?

Yes, in most cases. Abdominal liposuction requires a garment that covers the full torso from below the bust to the hips. Flank or back liposuction requires additional rear coverage, typically a high back girdle. Thigh liposuction requires leggings or shorts that extend across the full treated area. If you have had liposuction in multiple areas in a single procedure, you may need a combination of garments or a bodysuit that covers all treated zones simultaneously.
