High Back Girdles

Post Surgery Compression

High back girdles for
abdominal recovery

A high back girdle provides compression across both the front and back of the torso, making it particularly well suited to procedures where the treatment area extends beyond the abdomen. Where a standard girdle covers the front and sides, a high back design wraps further around the body, supporting the flanks and lower back as well.

This makes high back girdles especially useful after liposuction to the flanks or back, abdominoplasty where the incision extends around the sides, and any abdominal procedure where the surgeon has recommended full circumferential compression.

Front fastening for easy dressing

The Macom high back girdles feature a front hook and eye fastening, which means you can put them on and take them off without stretching over your head or twisting your body. This is particularly important in the early days after surgery when movement is limited and comfort is a priority. Both styles also include a gusset for ease when using the bathroom, avoiding the need to remove the garment entirely.

Who needs a high back girdle

  • Liposuction to the flanks, bra roll or back
  • Abdominoplasty or c section
  • Combined procedures where both abdominal and back areas require support
  • Patients advised to wear circumferential compression by their surgeon
  • Anyone who finds a standard girdle does not stay in place at the back during daily activity

High back girdles must be sized from your measurements rather than your clothing size. Measure your waist and hips before ordering and refer to the sizing chart for the specific garment you are considering.

Common Questions

High back girdle questions answered

Do I need a high back girdle or will a standard girdle be sufficient?

This depends on where your procedure was performed. If your liposuction or surgery was confined to the front of the abdomen, a standard girdle will usually provide adequate compression. If the treatment area extends around the sides or to the back, a high back design is needed to ensure all treated tissue is supported. If you are unsure, check your surgeon's post-operative notes or contact us and we will help you work out which garment is appropriate.

How long should I wear a high back girdle after liposuction?

Most surgeons recommend continuous wear for the first two to four weeks, removing only for washing. After this, the garment is typically worn during waking hours for a further four to six weeks. Some patients transition to a lighter Stage 2 garment from around six weeks post-op. Your surgeon's specific instructions take priority and should always guide your wearing schedule.

Can I use the bathroom without removing the girdle?

Yes. Both Macom high back girdles include a gusset seam that allows you to use the bathroom without removing the garment. This is an important practical feature in the early days of recovery when dressing and undressing can be uncomfortable. The Lipoelastic VF Body Variant also has fastenings that allow access without full removal.

What is the difference between the standard and petite Macom high back girdle?

The petite version has a shorter body length, making it better suited to patients with a shorter torso where the standard length garment would sit awkwardly. The level of compression, fastening style, and fabric are the same in both versions. If you are under approximately 5 foot 4 inches in height, the petite version is often a better fit.
