Their Story

In July of last year my breast lump really appeared overnight whilst I was on holiday. Upon my return I went straight to the doctors and in fairness to the NHS I was dealt with pretty quickly in Pembury hospital which has a kind of one stop shop for breast cancer.

The lump whilst obvious did not really show up on the mammogram but did on the ultrasound. This was followed up with my first operation to remove the lump and two lymph nodes.

Unfortunately a couple of weeks later I had a second operation as they found cancer in one of the lymph nodes so my lovely consultant thought it best to remove the rest of them and also go back into the scar of the lump removal and create a bigger margin around it.

What Helped More Than Expected

Finding the right bra that was comfortable where I had the lymph nodes removed. The right post-surgery support made such a difference to my daily comfort.

What I Wish I'd Known Beforehand

That you would lose feeling under your arm and slightly down your arm. This is a permanent change that I wasn't prepared for, and I wish someone had explained it more clearly.
