How to measure for your post surgery compression bra

How to choose the right post surgery bra

Choosing the right surgeon and type of breast surgery is important, but one often overlooked aspect is post-surgery aftercare. The care you receive and how you look after yourself post-surgery is vital to ensure the best recovery, and part of this care includes wearing the right supportive aftercare garments to protect you as you heal.

A well-fitted post-operative bra is crucial for your recovery. The right bra helps promote healing, keeps you comfortable, and supports your changing shape. However, finding the perfect fit is essential—if your bra is too tight, it may cause discomfort, and if it’s too loose, it won’t provide the support you need.

Post-Surgery Bra Fitting Tips:

  • Always try on your post-surgery garments to ensure the right fit.
  • When measuring your underbust stand side onto a mirror
  • Use a proper tape measure, keeping it level with the ground. Take a deep breath in and then out before taking the measurement.
  • Stand up straight and check the underarm fit—your bra should never feel too tight or painful.
  • Ensure the band feels supportive without causing discomfort and that it’s not too loose, as this can affect your healing. Usually you should be able to fit 2 fingers underneath the bra
  • Check the shoulder straps to make sure they aren’t too tight or leaving marks.
  • Always check the cup fit to avoid any gapping, which reduces support.

How to Choose the Right Post-Surgery Bra
We are proud suppliers of Macom, Lipoelastic and Recova compression garments, which offer the highest quality post-surgical support. All of their garments are designed along side medical professionals or surgeons!

Our product specialists will help you find the perfect fit, but you can also measure yourself at home before visiting us.

For both Macom and Recova bras, you only need to take your underband measurement, similar to shopping for a regular bra. Simply cross-reference this with the size guide, as both brands use the same sizing system. Macom bras, for example, are labelled from extra small upwards and feature expandable cups ( up to a GG) that adjust to your changing size.

Are Post-Surgery Bras Meant to Be Tight?

A post-surgery bra should feel snug and supportive but never tight enough to cause pain or discomfort. We always compare it to wearing skinny jeans, it’s normal to feel some pressure, but a good fit should be comfortable and secure, without any gapping.

How Long Should You Wear a Post-Surgery Bra?

Your surgeon will typically recommend wearing a post-operative bra 24/7 for 4-6 weeks after surgery, depending on the type of procedure. Please always follow the advice from your surgeon. This support helps the healing process and prevents changes in breast shape.

What Makes Post-Surgery Bras Different?

Post-surgery bras are specially designed to offer more support than regular bras, with wider straps and underbands for added security and comfort. They help promote your lymphatic system which helps remove toxins from your body such as anaesthetic. They are often front-fastening for easy wear and removal, especially during the initial recovery period when mobility may be limited.

Made specially crafted compression fabrics, Macom, Lipoelastic and Recova bras exert gentle pressure to promote healthy circulation and help minimize swelling, while being soft enough to avoid irritation. These garments are thoughtfully designed with post-surgery recovery in mind, providing the protection and comfort you need to heal smoothly.
